Blythe Bohnen

Blythe Bohnen was a founding member of the A.I.R. Gallery, the first all female cooperative art gallery established in  New York in 1972 with Howardena Pindell, Nancy Spero and others.


A book authored by five leading scholars will be published in early 2022 on the artist's highly experimental photographs, drawings and paintings.

Blythe Bohnen is an American artist who was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1940. Bohnen studied at Smith College and Boston University before receiving her M.F.A. from Hunter College in 1972. This same year, Bohnen became one of the founding members of A.I.R. Gallery, the first cooperative exhibition space for women in the United States.
